Our story begins in 1960 in Castelluccio di Norcia. Lover of our traditions, we have chosen to increase the value of our land's products and to make them known, founding precisely, the Farming Cooperative of Castelluccio, which selects and commercializes the Lentil of Castelluccio di Norcia, working also with other variety of legumes and cereals, like emmer, roveja (a wild pea), chickling pea and hulled barley. Our sowing method is organic for tradition, in full respect of environment. We adopt, in fact, production technics which had been used since ancient times, based only on organic manuring. Thanks to the respect of this production method and to the territorial typicality of the product, in 1999 European Community gave to the Lentil of Castelluccio the IGP seal, that is the protected geographical indication mark, safeguarded by the Cooperative.
Castelluccio di Norcia
Is a small town full of charm in the province of Perugia. It is situated in the middle of the Sibillini Mountains, in Umbria and the Marche regions, at an altitude of 1452 metres. It was built in the XIII century, even if its story probably has more ancient origins, as testifies the finding of some object belonging to the Roman period. Castelluccio di Norcia is renowned chiefly for its lentils and for the flowering of its plain: a wonderful explosion of colours that takes place in June.
